Disturbed by the fresh initiatives for a lasting negotiated peace deal in Afghanistan the Indian lobby in Kabul has became increasingly active and appeared determined to sabotage the scheduled talks. .
According to reliable sources the pro-Indian lobby has received huge funding from India and several former officials of pro-Indian lobby including ex-president Hamid Karzai have launched a massive campaign to fail the scheduled talks between Afghan Government and Taliban.
Reliable Afghan sources say that Hamid Karzai is hoping that current Afghan Government led by President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah will fail to achieve its peace vision and failure will pave way for the re-emergence of pro-India elements in Afghanistan.
Hamid Kazai is running this campaign from his office situated next to Presidential Palace and using his old friends and allies within the establishment. Karzai in recent interviews have openly criticised President Ashraf Ghani’s friendly approach towards Pakistan and an approach for political settlement of Afghanistan.
In an interview conducted by Scott Smith and published by Foreign Policy on February 20, 2015 Hamid Karzai made no secret of his hate against Pakistan and dislike for the United States which had refused to allow him a re-election.
Hamid Karzai’s anti-Pakistan feelings were clear enough when he was quoted as saying by Foreign Policy interviewer as saying: “I support this (Kabul) government….I support it on all issues except its policy towards Pakistan.”
During the course of his interview Hamid Karzai also indicated that he is deeply penetrated into the Presidential Palace with a “discreet professional staff in a surprisingly quiet atmosphere.”
On Sunday (February 22, 2015) speaking at an Indian sponsored seminar in Kabul, Hamid Karzaiaccused the U.S. of deceiving Afghanistan “after securing its military bases.”
The seminar was also attended by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, former national security advisor, Rangin Dadfar Spanta and top pro-Indian lobbyists. Karzai focused his attacks against Pakistan and alleged that “Pakistan with the help of U.S. used extremists against the Soviet Union and then used it against Afghanistan and India in the region.”
Directing his criticism against the United States, Karzai added “We waged Jihad and liberated our country. The benefits went to the US that became the sole superpower, Germany became unified and Europe got expanded.”
According to reports, Hamid Karzai has initiated a public mobilizing drive and meeting provincialgovernors and administrative officials to win support for his lobby. On February 21, 2015 Karzai had a meeting with Badakhshan’s governor and its provincial council’s members who praised his policy and strategy.
